How to Find Your Basic Corset Size
Please note: An basic corset is a more economical style of corset and is not made for very tight lacing. Authentic corsets are intended for extreme tight lacing and are sized differently, therefore this guide should only be used if you are ordering a basic corset. View authentic corset sizing here.
Because basic corsets fit differently than regular clothing and are intended to hug your body, they are sized differently than standard clothing. A basic corset’s size is based on you bust measurement.
A corset’s size is the actual measurement of the corset at the waistline. Your corset size should be about 4” smaller than your natural waist. This allows the corset to comfortably shape your waist, as well as leaving space for “spring room”: a gap left open at the back to allow for movement and small sizing adjustments. That four inches of extra room is what allows the corset to create the hourglass shape it’s known for!
For example, a person with a 30” waist would wear a size 26 corset. If you have an odd numbered waist measurement, round the number down rather than up, so someone with a 31″ waist would wear a size 28 corset.

How to measure your bust for fitting a basic corset
An accurate measurement is very important, as it will determine how well your new corset will fit.
- Wear a bra that gives good support and is not padded.
- Do not measure over top of any kind of shirt as this will add bulk.
- Use a soft measuring tape.
- Keep your back and shoulders straight and breathe normally.
- Use a soft measuring tape.
- Measure around the fullest part of your bust; across the nipples and straight across your back.
Important basic corset sizing tips
- It may be easier to have a friend or relative help you take your measurements.
- If you have very large breasts in proportion to the rest of your body, the previous instructions may not be accurate. This is especially true if you have had breast enhancement surgery.
